A comfy day.

There was snow predicted for today, but thankfully that's not happening.
Its just cold rain and chilly feet.
So the boy and I are having a comfy Saturday.

I didn't even bother to stick in my contacts today. I thought Id give my eyes a break and wear my new "Anna Karina" glasses. I told you I was obsessed!
They are so nerdy...makes me feel like Im twelve again!

In other news, I've been working on my hair! Its been going through some awkward phases this past week but I finally got it down. I really love blonde hair( I tried it last spring for the first time), but being a dark haired lady, I decided to heavily "ombre" it. Best of both worlds kind of thing, and now I won't have to deal with roots!
This is how I styled it last evening!

Anyhoooo, that's what I'm up to!
Have a wonderful day lovelies.

DIY Navajo inspired bag

Ive been doing alot of crafty projects recently....mostly because I'm broke but also want new things...
so here's my latest!

1. For the lining and handles of my bag, I took an old tee and cut the sleeves off( saving a scrap), leaving the shoulder seam as handle reinforcement. Then I cut the neck into a large scoop and sewed the bottom shut.

2. I sewed up the sides of my poncho fabric and left the top open. Then I placed it (with seams on the outside) into the tee-bag (which should have its seams on the inside)

3. Then I stitched the openings of each bag to each other, bunching the fabric at the base of each handle. It doesn't have to be perfect....clearly :P

4. Then I flipped it inside out! At this point I also went back and tidied things up abit, edges, strings, and went over the handles with an iron to flatten them out, etc.

5. Here's the fun part! I copied the pattern from my favorite poncho onto a scrap from the tee shirt sleeve, then used acrylic paint to color it in. I did a few coats to get the color bright, then added some white highlights...because were fancy.

6. Then I  cut the edges into a diamond shape, spread some glue on the back and stuck it on.
After the glue dried, I just sewed some beads where I wanted them, anchoring the corners of the fabric to the bag.

And that's it! Pretty easy right!

easy DIY Mustachio Art

I have an obsession with really excellent facial hair.
Back in the beginning of fall, my guy Tom started growing his "winter beard" and I started leaving little "beardspirational" posters and trinkets everywhere to cheer him on.
And even though he's traded the beard for some sideburns and a mustache, I just cannot stop myself.
Here is my most recent addition to an ever-growing collection of facial hair art!
I had this large canvas left over from previous project,
but it was really missing something.......

I drew half a classic mustache, folded in the middle and cut.

Symmetrical stache!
I then taped my stencil to the canvas and painted in the shape, stippling around the edges.

 And voila! Easy mustache art.
Perfect present or surprise for you mustachy men!

I call this guy "Lil Red"

They are now hanging in our breakfast nook.......which I think now must become the mustache nook, complete with mustache curtains....
Yup, its gonna happen :)

Style Crush ( Infatuation)-Anna Karina

I've fallen hopelessly in love with Anna Karina, and her style.
Soft girly dresses, colorful tights, flats, over-sized sweaters.
I love it because these are things I wear all the time....just minus the colors.
Color is what I'm going to work on this spring. Ive been in browns and greys and black for too long.
I desperately want to don yellow and blues and apricot shades this year.
And Maybe red. I always pass on red, I don't know why ..its an intimidating color for me.

(dress from modcloth)
Her wardrobe is especially glorious and primary in "Une femme est une femme"
Which has been on repeat quite a bit in my home as of late.
I love this blue dress!

Undoubtedly there will be outfit posts to come as I attempt Anna- esque outfits and in general try to step out of my color rut!

Spring wardrobe rotation.

I brought out some of my spring summer clothing and packed away my winter duds the other day because it was gorgeous weather. So of course its quite chilly today. Ah well... always the way of it.

 A rather drab before..........

 ....much better!

I love this dress, it has lemons and "citrus" printed all over it. Makes me smile.

I'm really hoping the sun will peak out today, I have so many errands and it would be wonderful if it would brighten up a bit.
I recently found a new thrift store in my neck of the woods, cannot wait to check it out!

The Oktomat

So this wee beastie arrived at my door yesterday.
If a spider and a camera had babies.....it would look like this little spider-baby camera.
Anyway, I'm really excited to try it out (especially this sat- St. Patty's day!) but I'm also a little leery after reading both wonderful and terrible reviews.

So I shall use it with an open mind, it is a "toy" camera after all, and my first Lomo( I want them all!) Many people commented that they had trouble with the film progressing, and that it broke the first time they used it. Others claim they have had theres for years and that they have never had any such problems.

Ill be sure to report back after my first roll, and give anyone interested my review!
I really want to give it pipe cleaner spider legs :)

And please please please, if anyone has one, I'd love to hear about it! be it love or hate.

Brownie pictures!

So these are the first pictures I took with this little camera.
I'm so happy with them. I cant wait to take more now that I know-ish how to use it and also know that it works!

And as much as I like the pictures, this roll of film also taught me what I should do differently, like maybe not shake so much and use a tripod :)

I love that this camera is able to take double exposures too!
I'm a real sucker for them :)

And of course thank you to my wonderful friend Nikolai for developing this film and teaching me how to use it!

Holes and Shadows

I came across some of my grandmothers old stockings while cleaning out one of my trunks and found these gloves tangled in among them. They are in rough shape.
Despite protesting "pops" from the seems, I gently put then on, along with this antique bridal hat. Then covered it with a rather mournful scarf...and proceeded to be distracted from cleaning for a good long time.
